ATTN: NON-PROFIT ORGS! NEED $$$ ?

As you may remember, on October 24,2009, Artsboretum held our first Thrill the World Fundraising Event - It was SO much fun - and we raised some funding for The Plant Studios Artsboretum project!

This year, I'm opening this event up to help my colleagues who need to raise money for their non-profit organizations - at NO cost to sign up.
We've already paid the sign up fee, and have everything else set up : venue (beautiful Gabrielson Park), rehearsal space in Sausalito, online registration, etc.

Think about it - When was the last time you participated in a fundraiser that required a few hour lead time, had NO start up costs, allowed you to dress up and dance like a zombie with people of all ages from all over the world, learn a skill that is sure to make you a hit at every Halloween or 80's dance party - AND had the potential to give your organization 85-90% of all funds you raised?

Now that I have your attention - here's how it works:

For your organization to participate in Thrill the World Sausalito, all you need to do is PRE-REGISTER at least one fan or friend to dance as a zombie to Thriller at our "officially sanctioned" event #4086 at Gabrielson Park in Sausalito - 4:00 pm SHARP on October 23rd. Sure, you can have more than one zombie dance for your organization - the more the merrier and each will help you raise funds!

To raise more funds for your organization, you and/or your zombie dancer(s) will ask your friends to register and donate through our "adopt a zombie" ticket option. (be sure to include the link to this blog, and/or our event registration link in all your tweets, facebook status updates, etc.) During registration, your friends will be asked "Who's your Zombie?" and all they have to do is type your name in the box!

LEARN THE DANCE BEFORE THE EVENT: All that is needed to learn it is desire to view the teaching videos and/or come to one or two Sausalito rehearsals next week - most people, who have never danced before - learn it in a couple of hours! More info on our LEARN THE DANCE page: http://ttwsausalito.blogspot.com/p/learn-dance.html

After we deduct the direct costs of the event from the proceeds (flyer printing, sign up fee, etc) and licensing fees (estimated 12-15% of overall total) we'll donate the remainder to our non-profit partners! The more donations we are able to raise, the higher the percentage we can give back!
(In order to be an official Thrill the World event, we happily remit 10% to TTW Int'l to make sure this wonderful fundraising opportunity can be sustainable.)

BTW: We'll also give a recognition award to the organization that raises the most funds - and sent out a press release! Great exposure for your .org!

For more info, please feel free to call me or check out the event link. http://ttwsausalito.blogspot.com -
Don't take too long to decide, though, because the event is FAST approaching and rehearsals start Saturday, October 16th!
If this sounds to good to be true - it isn't - learning this dance is hard work - but it WILL be the most fun you've probably ever had at a FUNdraiser!

Best Regards,
Mari

CD RELEASE SHOW!

West Marin - 10/09/2010 - Ranch Nicasio - a completely different vibe and a completely different show - Call to reserve advance tickets $12 : 415-662-2219 or pay more on the day of the show: $15
If you subscribe to the "DIRT" email me proof that you bought an advance ticket and I'll have a special personalized "thank you" gift waiting for you at the show. It will be different than the "thank you" gift for the 142 show, unique to this Rancho show! So, please call and reserve your spot asap! 415-662-2219
By the way, speaking of the Rancho, did you know that Angela Strehli really deserves a lot of the credit for motivating me to start this album? Here's why: about six years ago, after I sat in on a few impromptu tunes with the Rancho All Stars, Angela called me the next day and said, "I feel as if we've discovered a treasure." Now you can only imagine how, someone like me, a singer who's been slugging out in clubs for most of my career and who had pretty much given up on a lot of my dreams by that point in my life, would feel at a moment like that. I mean, think about it -here is the very same Angela Strehli - who is referred to by many true blues aficionados as the "Queen" of the 80's Austin blues scene, which also spawned Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lou Ann Barton and Marcia Ball - and she's taking the time to call ME and say something like that? Well, I was so floored by her kindness and generosity of spirit, that I still get choked up to this day just thinking about that phone call. Plus, Mike Duke, the wonderful singer/player/songwriter (he wrote "Power of Love" the Huey Lewis hit) who plays in the Rancho Nicasio All Stars - appears on "Can't Go Back." How could we NOT do a show at the Rancho to celebrate the CD release? Anyway, hope to see you there! -- MM

BAN Use of Methyl Iodide!

The public has until June 29th to state its opposition to use of Methyl Iodide as a pesticde in CA. The EPA approved its use in 2007, even after 50 scientists, 5 of them Nobel Laureates, advised against its use.
Methyl iodide is so reliably carcinogenic that it's used in the lab to cause cancer. Scientists say it "cannot be used safely," yet Gov. Schwarzennegger has pushed its approval. We have until the end of June to register public outrage.
How can you help?:
1) Call the Governor & demand that methyl iodide not be approved for use in California: (916) 445-2841
2) Comment by email: mei_comments@cdpr.ca.gov
3) Sign an online petition and get more information:

Need Books for your Art?

Do you incorporate old books into your art or "upcycle" them into new products?
Share your links and photos with us! Contact your local library! I recently volunteered at a local library - and was distressed to find out that some libraries still throw some books out in the trash! While most libraries have a "Friends of the Library" organization that sells books, some do end up in the trash - so please call and offer to pick them up!
Or, if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, contact me directly to find out where you can get books for FREE - that would otherwise end up in the landfill?

btw - cool blog find of the week - thanks to Maker Faire: http://justsomethingimade.blogspot.com/2010/05/fun-times-at-2010-maker-faire-bay-area.html
